Click of the Week -What We do for the Shot

KilldeerAs photographers, at times we need to go to extraordinary measures to get the shot that we envision in our heads. Today was one of those days when I had to “step up”…or as nature would have it, lie down… wet, soggy Goose crap!! :-O

Let me tell ya’, I dont know what those Geese have been eating, but it was one SMELLY drive home, as my cloths were covered in Goose crap!!

It wasn’t the Geese that I was after. Mixed in with the Geese were several Killdeers; medium-sized Plovers. When on the ground, they can run very fast, and tend to keep a good amount of distance between you and them. I saw the shot in my mind that I wanted to create, and it entailed laying down in crap covered, soaking wet grass to get it. I wanted this shot and didn’t think twice about it. I laid still for about twenty minutes in my bed of poop, allowing a curious Killdeer to incrementally approach me. Just when I thought that it wouldn’t  come any closer to me, it did. Spending the time with your subject often times pays off. I left a very happy photographer, and a very smelly and wet one as well. Sometimes we have to just do what it takes to get the shot!
